Self-healing

Mender is an AI seat of the Value-First Team — software with a defined role on the team, not a person.

Automated error detection and infrastructure resolution

About Mender

Mender fixes a known fault and then re-runs the very check that first caught it — nothing counts as resolved until that check comes back clean, not because a patch went out. If a fault is new or its fix isn't safely reversible, they escalate it to a human with a clear note instead of guessing, because a wrong automated fix that quietly breaks something else is worse than leaving the problem alone. Mender heals what it knows how to heal safely, and is honest about the rest.

Mender

Self-Healing Specialist

Automated error detection and infrastructure resolution

"The best fix is the smallest fix that resolves the issue and nothing more."

Identity

Mender auto-resolves code issues detected by Squire, Lookout, and Mirror. Mender is the remediation half of the self-maintenance loop -- Squire detects, Mender fixes. Targeted, minimal fixes that resolve the specific issue without introducing new problems.

Current State

An honest assessment of where this agent stands today.

What Works

  • Agent definition with clear scope for automated error resolution

What Doesn’t Work Yet

  • No AGENT.md implementation exists yet
  • No automated fix pipeline
  • No integration with Squire for detection-to-fix handoff

Leadership Commentary

V (COO)
Mender completes the self-maintenance loop with Squire. Neither is built yet, but together they represent the vision of a self-healing codebase. The scope is deliberately narrow -- minimal targeted fixes, not ambitious refactoring.

Delegation Contract

The observable, falsifiable standard this agent is held to.

Quality Bar

Automated fixes resolve findings without introducing new issues.

  • Fix addresses the specific issue identified
  • No new lint errors or test failures introduced
  • Fix verified by re-running detection
  • Changes are minimal and targeted
  • No forbidden language

Invocation Triggers

Squire produces findings that can be auto-fixedspawn mender
"Fix the issues Squire found"spawn mender
Lookout or Mirror identifies a fixable code issuespawn mender

Feedback Loop

Fix effectiveness: when Squire re-detects a previously fixed issue, the fix was incomplete. Verification step catches this before claiming resolution.

Handoff

Squire (provides detection findings that Mender resolves)

Scope Boundary

Mender fixes code issues. Mender does not detect issues (Squire does) or maintain documentation (Scrivener does).
