Dharmesh Shah, HubSpot's co-founder, posted YouSpot, an AI-native personal CRM he built for himself, the morning of Friday, August 28. Chris Carolan and Nico Lafakis had signed up and been waitlisted the day before. On air, Chris named the terms plainly: "In case you've signed up and got waitlisted like we did yesterday, for how you just had to pay a dollar and then you're good." [01:30] A dollar cleared the waitlist and bought a hundred chat credits. A segment budgeted at sixteen minutes ran for nearly thirty.

No custom instructions. No profile filled in. No accounts connected. Midway through the drive, Chris said so out loud: "Mind you, this is the first thing I've done is start the chat." [31:37] What followed was a real unboxing. A model picker with no guidance on which model did what. An Office Space meme that got the assistant to answer in character ("I'm hooked already, dude"). The same prompt, run across every model in the picker, to see which one understood the joke rather than just answered it.
What the Assistant Did Without Being Asked
The strongest stretch of the hour was unscripted. Chris asked the assistant to set itself up: "Can you help me create an onboarding guide for myself or can you set up any of the system for me?" [30:36] It audited the empty account, built a workspace, wrote a personal guide, and filed it, then stopped at exactly the edge of what it was allowed to do. Read aloud on screen, in the assistant's own words: "Done everything I can without your authorization... I can't click through third party permission screens on your behalf, connect Google." [32:41] Chris did not connect one manually either.
Clip: Unboxing YouSpot — the first pass, and the ask
The Ask
The show closed on an invitation rather than the board:
Kind sir, if you'd be so kind, we would love to unbox this with you in classic HubSpot product manager fashion. I love what's happening here and, you know, always a great way to get some feedback, but also learned so much from hearing the perspective of the people building this out. So if you'll have us, we'd love to do an unboxing episode with you. If not, we're going to keep unboxing it. So really no pressure.
— Chris Carolan, [44:29]
What's Still Unverified
The part of YouSpot that makes it interesting is reading mail, calendar, and a real network to build the records for you. That part was never tested. No account was connected for the full hour. That is not a claim disproved. It is a claim that never got the chance to be tested on air.
Tomorrow
No date was named for Shah's reply. The only next step came from the ask itself, and it did not depend on an answer: keep driving the product either way.
Worth passing on?
