Unboxing YouSpot — the first pass, and the ask

A demo shows you what a product wants you to see. An unboxing shows you what it actually does.

Dharmesh Shah built and shipped YouSpot this morning. Hours later, Nico and I had it in front of us live, cold — nothing configured, no accounts connected.

$1 cleared the waitlist. It came with 100 chat credits — the whole cost of finding out for yourself.

What's in the video below is the real first pass: what's genuinely good, what isn't there yet, nothing smoothed over either direction.

A few things stood out fast:

1. The model picker is real power, mostly hidden. "Your average user doesn't even know there is the ability to change models."

2. It knows the Office Space meme. "I'm hooked already, dude" was out of my mouth before I could stop it.

3. Nico's instinct was the right one: "give that meme to GPT. Do you get the same response?"

4. The naming on the models needs work, and we said so — the kind of note you give something because you want it to get better.

5. Nico's read stuck: one model has a personality. The other would rather just get the work done.

Then it hit the part that actually matters. The assistant looked at our empty account, spun up a workspace, wrote a personal guide, filed it, checked its own integrations — and then told us, in its own words: "I can't click through third party permission screens on your behalf."

We went in cold on purpose, so we never actually got to find out whether the self-filling promise holds. That's the honest answer, not the exciting one, and it's the one I'd rather give you straight.

"If it just started automatically building out that spider's web, that would be sick."

So here's exactly what I said to you on air, Dharmesh, word for word:

"Kind sir, if you'd be so kind, we would love to unbox this with you in classic HubSpot product manager fashion. I love what's happening here and, you know, always a great way to get some feedback, but also learn so much from hearing the perspective of the people building this out. So, if you'll have us, we'd love to do an unboxing episode with you. If not, we're going to keep unboxing it, so really no pressure."

Full unboxing's below.
