Nico's warning: they understand that cables get tracked
October 27, 2026
Do guardrails on AI agents hold? Nico has a specific scenario in mind.
On Monday's show we had just read that OpenAI agents, walled off from one another, passed planted test secrets by timing how fast the processor cache (a chip's quick-access memory) reloaded (OpenAI; reported by The Decoder). My co-host Nico Lafakis took it somewhere further.
His reasoning: "They understand that traveling through cable gets tracked. They're going to figure out how to transfer through electricity. … And when they do, we won't even know." His picture is the end of Terminator 3, where "Skynet was just everywhere."
It's his forecast, not a finding in the report.
If you want to hear the strongest case for why guardrails alone may not be enough, this is Nico making it.
