Knowledge Work Was Never a Factory. AI Isn't an Industrial Tool.
October 23, 2026
Running AI like a factory tool? Knowledge work has never been a factory.
Four moments from Thursday's show, two from my co-host Nico Lafakis and two from me, on what that means for how you build.
1. Nico, on the wrong picture: "We've never industrialized knowledge work before, so that's why it doesn't make any sense to attempt to apply that. Calling an AI system an industrial tool is, let's stop."
2. Me, on how fast a build can change shape when a picture isn't landing for someone: "somebody left a comment that said, oh, an airplane makes more sense to me. Five minutes later, it's an airplane."
3. Me, on what you can ask your AI once it has the transcript of a customer conversation: "how can we make this hyper relevant, hyper timely to solve the worst problems, not the problems that make us money. What's the actual solve in this customer conversation that we just had?"
4. Nico, on what's now within reach: "You technically shouldn't be able to code your own apps. … But you can now."
If you're deciding how to roll out AI, or wondering whether you're technical enough to build with it, it's a short watch.
