We call it artificial intelligence out of habit, and the habit is getting harder to defend.
My co-host Nico stopped mid-sentence on the show today and refused to keep using the word:
"I'm just going to stop calling it artificial at this point, because it's ridiculous. And it's being just amazingly insulting to start calling this artificial intelligence still. So, this digital intelligence system came along and basically said, hold my beer and then solved the problem."
He is not being cute about it. What you call a thing sets how seriously you take it, and "artificial" is doing a lot of work to keep people from taking this seriously.
