The email is too long

They tell you the email is too long. So you send a shorter one. Then the feedback is: "There's not enough information."

A colleague shared that story with me. The next person who got that feedback said thanks and kept sending the long ones. I asked my co-hosts how they'd approach it.

Trisha Merriam:

"I would start by saying, why do you think it's too long? Because I have plenty of case studies of longer emails performing better than shorter emails."

Erin Wiggers:

"Which persona do you have in mind when you say it's too long for them?"

I said asking is a viable path "if it's one person on the other side of that email." Trisha's answer:

"But it's not. It's so many people."

Before you cut it or keep it, find out who's reading and what too long means to them.
