Don't let AI decide your process, and process as a real object
October 7, 2026
The most common way AI goes wrong isn't the technology. It's that nobody decided how the work runs first.
On the show I used an example older than AI: no sales process, you buy HubSpot, and you adopt its default deal stages even though they don't match your business at all.
"AI can help you figure out what your process is or needs to be, but don't let it decide what your process is. That's what your humans are for."
My co-host Erin Wiggers showed me the alternative in her own platform, Emergent.
"I essentially made process a real object in Emergent where every process has multiple steps, every step has what goes into and out of that step, who owns it, what the AI does, where the automation fits in."
"It's good for the humans using it, but I think it's also really good for the AI and the automations that we're building because it knows that's not my part of the process."
When the process is written down, people and AI both know where they are.
