My co-host Trisha Merriam reopened a question she asked me months ago: how technical does an AI orchestrator actually need to be?

I'm in the same place I was then. My co-host Erin Wiggers wasn't sure she'd fully agree — until she did.

"First decide that you need somebody in this role and then don't just get somebody with a bunch of AI experience."

I told the story of an enterprise AI committee that had been meeting for who knows how long about getting people to use Copilot — and never once asked whether the model itself needed to change.

Naming the role isn't the same as filling it well.
