In HubSpot's empty-state update, one example made me say "I was not thinking of this": "here's the queue you actually want it to be empty."

So when it is empty and the message says there is no data to show in this time frame, "that was the plan, but now I'm worried that something else is wrong and I gotta fix the report." My verdict on the redesign: "this is a step in the right direction."
