A report that comes back empty usually means something is wrong. Sometimes empty is the goal.
Per HubSpot's update, the reporting empty-state redesign is a minor visual change, so the message better represents the type of report it was meant to display. The old one, as I read it off the before screen: "There is no data to show in this time frame… Try changing the date range."
What caught me was a report with a note above the chart: "Keep this list empty by following up." Which means, in my words, "here's the queue you actually want it to be empty." And if it is empty and the message says there is no data, "now I'm worried that something else is wrong and I gotta fix the report."
Ryan Ginsberg guessed it was a templated report. Per the update, this is just a visual change, and empty states keep functioning as normal.
We are "learning new words literally every day": "empty state and customer state. Completely different things."
If a report on your dashboard is one you want empty, check which message means you won and which means it broke.
