Smart Transfer: custom object mapping is still homework

Moving off Salesforce, Zoho CRM or Dynamics 365 and wondering how your custom objects come along? Per HubSpot's update, listed as a public beta expected November 9th, customers can transfer custom objects from those systems into HubSpot custom objects, preserving schema, properties, associations and records.

Joshua Oakes was glad to see it: "I rejoice on behalf of anybody who has to do this." His advice: "Now, this is a beta. So don't just turn it on, sync your objects, cancel your Salesforce contract, and walk away. You'll want to do that eventually. But join this beta and do some test migrations and see that everything comes over."

The homework is the mapping. My word of caution: "the likelihood that the way that processes were done inside of these systems should be the same exact processes that are done inside of HubSpot, usually low." Joshua named the classic miss: "we're mapping this property to that property and not thinking about the custodianship of either of the property, how it gets set, and then what its downstream dependencies are." And on roll-up properties: "business processes exist in time, not just in a snapshot."

Your judgment decides where the manual rethink goes, and Breeze or any AI makes it easier to get out ahead of it. Plan for weeks, too: a new interface takes people a while to get past.
