Recommend or suggest: the difference is whether I vouch

When someone says they recommend her, they are putting their own name on it. Zach Hussion explained why the verb matters: "recommending something versus suggesting something are two different things." His example: "I'm recommending Madelyn as the partner that you work with for this thing" means "I'm giving Madelyn a bunch of credibility here and saying, I vouch for her." The lighter version: "I suggest you give her a call."

It came up because HubSpot changed the label from recommended for you to suggested for you in the add-to-dashboard panel. The next time a person or a tool gives you advice, listen for which verb they chose.
