Email Variants: one email asset for every segment, and why the word variant matters
October 22, 2026
Personalized email has long been more setup than email. In my words on the show, it took "a master's degree to do it at this level": "are we using a token? Can we connect to that object type? Do we need to custom code it?"
Email Variants is HubSpot's answer. Per the update, you build a single email with multiple variants tailored for each segment, or for each language, under one email asset, instead of juggling separate emails for different groups. It's for Marketing Hub Professional and Enterprise, and it's in a private beta that isn't taking members right now.
Zach Hussion pointed back to where this started: "hyper personalization at scale" was the initial selling point, built on "workflow driven and personalization tokens… that you could pull in."
What I like is the word itself. "Variant is a word that I feel is showing up thanks to us working with AI." And a caution: "maybe you shouldn't go that personalized. Like that two-person segment. Maybe just stick with these usual suspects for variants."
If you're about to build segment-specific email, decide your usual suspects first.
