Offline mode on mobile: Zach's road-warrior read, and the stepping stone to a local model
Ryan covered offline mode yesterday. Today Zach gave his read, and he was plain about it: he is not Christmas morning excited.
His two situations: the middle of nowhere, and the secure facility where the phone goes in a basket. Offline mode does not help in the second one. It does help the first. Zach remembers being a road warrior in sales, in the middle of nowhere, like Alabama, wanting to look things up before walking into a meeting.
His read on the size of it: having the fifty most recently viewed records per object type should cover probably the eighty twenty rule.
My question was how real the accidental offline world still is. And my bigger read is that this is a stepping stone towards a local model on your phone, where the work is deciding what data to save so the intelligence you carry has something to work with.
For now it is read only.
